In 2009, Brian and Blair Vanhook started making waves in the home health industry in their home town of Raleigh, NC. As they grew their agency, Perpetual Home Care, they quickly recognized that a gap existed within the home care industry. From that realization, an idea was born, an idea that became reality in June of 2016. Home Care Assist fills the void between hiring an agency and sourcing in-home care independently. In this week’s Triangle Business Journal feature, Brian shares his vision for and current success with Home Care Assist, the first caregiver-careseeker compatibility network.
In his interview with staff reporter, Jennifer Henderson, he explains that Home Care Assist provides the security and guidance of a professional agency while allowing the user to remain in control of their care. Additionally, both parties benefit. By removing the agency overhead, the careseeker pays less and the caregiver earns more.
Simply Put, How Home Care Assist Works
Caregivers create a profile that acts as their resume. They list their desired pay rate, hours, and complete a compatibility profile. To be active, they must pass an annual nationwide background screening. On the flip side, careseekers complete a similar profile. Next, they activate their membership to view a curated list of caregivers. These caregiver are specifically are matched to their specific needs. Finally, the two parties can connect safely (on the site) to work out specifics.
“We want to bring the most affordable, trustworthy option and allow the caregivers and careseekers to stay in control,” he says.
Currently, Home Care Assist is launched in North Carolina, Florida, and Atlanta markets. In the Triangle Business Journal feature, Brian goes on to detail the company’s strategic plan. The intent is to roll out into populations with large elderly concentrations. With the “ultimate goal to serve the entire nation.”
Recognition in the Triangle Business Journal is especially significant — a local knowledge source for both Brian and Blair — providing validation that Home Care Assist is moving in the right direction. “I look forward to seeing Home Care Assist featured in business journals across the country.”
